Along the roadside in Hoi An |
I had an amazing two month trip in Vietnam in 2001. For 5 weeks, I attended the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies to expedite my Vietnamese language skills. If you think that I'm fluent by now, you've got another thing coming. I'm really good at replying with a blank stare.
I spent 6 weeks in Hanoi, 2 days in Hoi An, and 12 days in Saigon, visiting friends with whom I met during my first trip in January, 2000. I also placed TV ads in an attempt to find my biological mother, but had no such luck. Since I was adopted at the age of 1 through Holt International in 1974, it's difficult to obtain records to help with the search.
Throughout my trip, I kept my family and friends up to date with my experiences via a Perl script that I coded. (Now, known as blogging) This functionality allowed me to post my letter to my Web site and to an email list, simultaneously. If you're interested to know how my trip went, please feel free to read the email archive. |
